Cafe Scientifique Live: Carbon Credits – From Offsetting to Insetting: Net Zero opportunities for Community benefit

Tuesday 18th July 2023 3:00PM – 4:30PM
Location/Venue: Cellar Bar Kennaway House EX10 8NG

John White, Co-founder Emtec, will talk about Carbon Credits – From Offsetting to Insetting: Net Zero opportunities for Community benefit

Insetting is a direct extension from Offsetting. While Offsetting refers to the purchase of carbon credits from a carbon reduction project that is unrelated to the company in question, the definition of Insetting necessitates that the location of the carbon offset project is within the company’s own supply chain, and supply chain communities. John’s talk will explore the potential benefits for local communities and businesses.

John White is Co-founder Emtec, a carbon emission measurement company based at Exeter Science Park. John is also Carbon Director of Ebetri, a UK renewable energy company based in Mombasa Harbour area, Kenya and Chairman of Breathe Points, a London based carbon technology start up focused on community carbon reduction solutions for Smart Cities. Emtec has worked extensively with Exeter University and National Physical Laboratory to develop its measurement algorithms, EBetri is working with Brunel University to increase energy generation efficiencies for African projects. John has been a member of the Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets since its inception in September 2020.
