Geology speaker featured in Sidmouth Herald

One of the Sidmouth Science Festival’s speakers is featured in a news story in the Sidmouth Herald.

Local resident, Roger Trend, recently wrote a book about Lanzarote’s geology which is now available in English. He discovered that no book was available for non-specialists who wanted to discover more about the island’s amazing landscapes and geological background, so decided to write the book himself. The book delves into the island’s geology and landscape, outlining the formation of the Canary Islands and the several phases of Lanzarote’s volcanism, as well as its diverse sediments and hazards.

Mr Trend worked in higher education for twenty years including the University of Sheffield, University of Exeter and the University of Oxford.

Roger is giving a talk during the science festival on the topic of Lanzarote’s geothermal energy: its geological origins and its possibilities for electricity generation. The talk is on Saturday 5 October 11am at All Saints church, Sidmouth. The talk is free of charge and booking is not required.
