Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

At Sidmouth Science Festival we believe that science belongs to everyone. Our mission is not only to share the wonder of science, but to do so in a way that is fair, welcoming and inclusive for all.

We are committed to creating a festival that reflects the diversity of our community and provides a positive, respectful experience for everyone. We encourage participation from people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, identities and beliefs, especially those who may not traditionally engage with, or feel represented in, science, technology, engineering and mathematics. (STEM).

We believe that fairness means recognising and addressing barriers to participation. That’s why we offer mostly free events, use accessible venues, design activities for all ages, run a school’s programme and continue to explore ways to support the different needs of our audience.

We know that inclusion is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to listening, learning, and adapting. Our approach is guided by the principles of the Equality Act 2010, and we are committed to supporting people of all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences.

We have agreed a three-year Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan that we are implementing and which is discussed and monitored at our regular meetings.

By putting fairness, diversity and inclusion at the heart of what we do, we aim to make Sidmouth Science Festival a place where everyone feels they belong.

As part of our commitment to listening and learning we would love to hear from you:
