An Introduction to Medical Ultrasound with live demonstrations using hospital equipment.
Talk by Steve Savage Consultant Sonographer, Yeovil District Hospital.
This talk will cover the basic principles and physics (in a very simple way!) of medical ultrasound including the production of ultrasound the ultrasound image and some more advanced uses such as colour Doppler and shear wave. We will also look at the application of ultrasound and its use in a wide range of different types of examination such as Obstetrics, General, musculoskeletal ultrasound and some interventional procedures. There will be an opportunity to see some live scanning and see colour Doppler and shear wave in action. There will be some discussion on the new uses of ultrasound and there will be an opportunity to ask questions too.
Steve Savage is an an accredited Consultant Sonographer performing and teaching interventional ultrasound procedures. He provides and coordinate complex clinical ultrasound training for radiological and nonradiological staff.
He is an expert in musculoskeletal (MSK) and interventional ultrasound and ultrasound guided steroid injections, presenting and teaching at many Universities and professional groups throughout the country. He recently won the British Medical Ultrasound Society ‘Sonographer of the Year’ mainly for his drive and passion in leading and innovation within the field of Ultrasound. He was appointed Clinical Director of radiology for the last four years and continues to lead the Yeovil radiology department in the newly merged somerset FT as the Clinical Service Lead of Radiology. He was previously an Army Radiographer/Sonographer for 37 years regular and reserve service He served in Belize Hong Kong Nepal Germany Kosovo Kuwait and Iraq.
