Café Scientifique

The April Cafe Scientifique will be part of Sidmouth Arboretum’s Tree week so it will not be on the usual day of the month. It will be on Tuesday 30th April at 2.30pm when Keith Sacre from Barcham Trees will give the talk entitled ‘Trees: the root of the problem’

He will talk about root development and the modifications tree nurseries make to the root structure of trees during their production and the implications of those modifications when transplanting into the landscape. The talk will look at the three principal production methods used in the UK and root development in those production systems.

Keith Sacre is Sales Director for Barcham Trees, the largest containerised tree nursery in Europe. Prior to that he worked for Notcutts Nurseries and also spent many years in local government as nursery, parks and operations manager. Keith is a Chartered Arboriculturist and holds an MSc in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry. Keith led the development of the new British Standard BS 8545:2014 Trees: from nursery to independence in the landscape. He is Vice Chair of the Arboricultural Association and in 2014 he received the Arboricultural Association Award for his continuing services to arboriculture.   

He is also a Trustee of the Tree and Design Action Group www.tdag.org.uk which explores the practical challenges and solutions to integrating trees in 21st century streets, civic spaces and surface car parks, detailing process, design and technical options. 

Please note that this event will be live at the Cellar Bar at Kennaway House, Coburg Road EX10 8NG. You will be expected to pay £2.50 entrance which includes a hot drink. (Or pay £2.50 for a hot drink and then come in free!) Please come prepared.
