This short presentation given by Dr Peter Alberry, is based on his visit to Chernobyl shortly after the roof was blown off the Chernobyl RBMK Reactor 4 in 1986, which has been described as the worst nuclear accident in history.
The RBMK reactor design faults are briefly explained together with an explanation of exactly why and how the man made “accident” occurred.
The immediate consequences for Chernobyl and the nearby city of Pripyat are described followed by details of the human and longer-term global consequences
