“The Energy Scene – Is the target for 2050 achievable?” After a brief summary of the climate change situation and the international agreements, the presentation looks at the overall energy supply situation in the UK and what needs to be done to get to 2050. The various low carbon sources are identified (wind, water, solar, biomass and nuclear) and their potential contributions discussed, along with the problems raised by intermittency. The emphasis is on putting numbers in. What comes out of it all is an appreciation of the huge but exciting challenges that lie ahead.
