Cafe Scientifique: Lyme Disease – who is doing what to whom?

Tuesday 20th February 2018 3:00PM – 4:30PM

Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium that has been around for a very long time and has evolved to survive in different hosts. We will have a look at some of what is known about the host and vector interactions with the bacterium and the impact on humans as an incidental host. We shall also explore why Lyme disease has become a topic of sometimes intense media interest and patient unrest. There are some complex dependent relationships and all is not quite how you may think.

Stella Huyshe-Shires is chairman of Lyme Disease Action, a UK registered charity formed in 2003 to provide evidence based information about ticks and Lyme disease. Stella contracted Lyme disease in her Sidbury garden which led to her involvement with the charity.
