Making light work: understanding plant disease through imaging

Dr. George Littlejohn, Lecturer in Applied Biology, University of Plymouth

Plant pathogens cause 15-30 % yield loss per annum and can threaten whole populations with starvation. In the face of climate change and a rising global human population, it is imperative that we find ways to limit food insecurity. Successfully tackling plant pathogens requires an understanding of their mode of action and in my laboratory, we use microscopy and other modes of biological imaging to understand the interplay between plants and their pathogens. This talk will show how we can gain useful information about the presence and action of pathogens from non-invasive biological imaging.
