Deep time walk – led by the University of Exeter

Thursday 10th October 2019 2:00PM – 3:30PM
Location/Venue: Sidmouth Museum Hope Cottage Church Street EX10 8LY

Join researchers from the University of Exeter’s Global Systems Institute to explore the story of the deep geological, and recent human history of Earth.

Dr Tom Powell and Daneen Cowling will be leading a walk back through the 4.5 billion years of Earth history, told through the landscape of Sidmouth. On our route we will explore the geological and biological events that have shaped the Earth as we know it. We’ll then look at the human presence in the landscape, and discuss how humankind is reshaping the planet and what our future might hold.

This walk is designed to create an inclusive and immersive space to connect with our natural environment, and consider our place in its long and dynamic history.

The walk will be approx. 2 hours duration. Please dress appropriately for some uneven parts of the walk, and protection against the elements (waterproofs and sun protection are encouraged).

The walk will start at the Sidmouth Museum, Church St, Sidmouth, EX10 8LY, and it is free.
