Growing hope together: Exploring the connections between food, our health, and the natural world

Event Overview

Though we are living in challenging times; they are still reasons to be hopeful for a better future. Dame Jane Goodall was a UN Messenger of Peace. She described earth as a ‘tapestry of life’, where all forms of life are intricately connected; each dependent on the other for survival. In The book of hope; a survival guide in trying times (2021) she gathered numerous real-life stories, from across the globe, describing how small actions by individuals and communities cumulated in a huge positive impact on their lives and the natural world.

One of the simplest ways to illustrate how life on earth is interconnected is through what we eat. It shapes our health, our landscapes, our communities and our future. Through stories this evening brings together scientists and growers to explore how what we eat affects both human wellbeing, the natural world and our planet. We explore how taking small actions in rethinking what we eat; and how we grow ourselves as individuals and communities through reconnecting with nature can foster hope for a better future.

Event Aims

  • To explore how we are interconnected using the three key pillars of the roots and shoots programme: People, Environment and animals/wildlife
