Location/Venue: Cellar Bar, Kennaway House, EX10 8NG

Talk by Neil Garrick-Maidment Hon FBNA. Founder and Executive Director, The Seahorse Trust.

This talk is part of a day of events on Saturday 17 October 2026 examining marine life.

In this talk, we discover one of nature’s most enigmatic species, the Seahorse. Found all around the world, including here in the UK, this species is surrounded by myth and legend, but when delving deep into the animal itself, the true seahorse is even more fascinating than its mystical counterpart.

Neil Garrick-Maidment is a committed naturalist and has worked in partnership with the natural world for the last 50 years; seahorses have been a major part and driving force of that work throughout.

In 2000 he set up The Seahorse Trust which has a worldwide reputation for its seahorse research and conservation work. He has advised governments and individuals around the world on projects to do with seahorse conservation all around the world.

In 2008 he achieved for both British species of seahorse, recognition as a native species and protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981).
