Sidmouth’s Changing Climate : Past, Present and Future.
Talk by Professor Brian Golding.
Talk in partnership with the Devonshire Association. Entry £3 on the door.
Professor Golding’s talk will start in the early 19th century when records began to be kept to support Sidmouth’s claim to be a health resort, competitive with anything on the continent. He will then move on to describe the current climate, and the factors that affect it, showing how it has already changed. He will then look to the future, focusing on the changes that we can expect, and how we shall need to adapt to them. To conclude, Brian will pick out some of the less certain aspects of our future climate, that may require more radical adaptation measures.
Prof. Brian Golding OBE is a Sidmouth resident and a former Director of Weather Science at the Met Office. He was made an OBE in 2013 for services to forecasting severe weather and was awarded the Mason Gold Medal, which is the premier award of the Royal Meteorological Society, for his contributions to meteorological science. His current interests are in the prediction of thunderstorms and in communicating warnings of the resulting rapid onset flooding.
