Survival at the limits – from mountains to intensive care medicine. A talk with Dr Mary Slingo
The human body is capable of extremes: we can survive at altitudes so high that there is barely enough oxygen to support life, yet we can also succumb to critical illnesses that require all of the life-support machines of a modern intensive care unit. This talk will discuss what happens to the human body in these extreme environments.
Dr Mary Slingo is a senior anaesthetic registrar in Hampshire, and has a Doctorate from the University of Oxford. She is a passionate rock climber and has worked as a doctor on two expeditions to the Himalayas. Recently, Mary has been working on the front-line in Covid-19 Intensive Care.
