Sidmouth Science Festival has drawn to a close after another inspiring and successful celebration of science in all its forms. With events taking place across Sidmouth, the festival once again achieved its central aims: to spark curiosity, inspire learning, and reach people who might not normally engage with science subjects.
Over the course of ten days, audiences of all ages enjoyed a wide variety of talks, demonstrations, hands-on activities and discussions, showing that science can be both accessible and fun. Highlights included Super Science Saturday, which filled town centre venues with interactive exhibits and family-friendly experiments; the Family Day at Norman Lockyer Observatory, where visitors explored astronomy and space through talks and activities; and a rich programme of mid-week talks covering everything from the mysteries of the natural world to cutting-edge research shaping the future.
This year’s festival saw strong attendance and enthusiastic participation throughout, reflecting the community’s growing appetite for science and learning. The mix of topics, speakers and venues once again brought together people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of scientific knowledge, fulfilling the festival’s mission to make science open and engaging for everyone.
Festival Programme Manager, Chris Lockyear, said:
“It’s been a joy to see so many people of all ages exploring science, asking questions and discovering new things right here in Sidmouth. The festival has shown that science is not just for specialists, it’s for everyone. We’re proud to have inspired conversations that will continue long after the festival ends. A huge thank you to our visitors, volunteers, sponsors and partners for helping us make that happen.”
Next year’s festival is from Friday 9 to Sunday 18 October 2026.
