Build and race your own rocket propelled car during the Family Fun Day at Norman Lockyer Observatory.
Jet Car – Build and Race is part of the Family Fun Day at the Norman Lockyer Observatory. Admission to the Family Fun Day is Adults £15, children (ages 0-17) free. The entry fee covers all the activities on site for the day except for the jet car kits for which there is an additional charge of £15.
From 11 am onwards on the day we are offering you a chance to build your own Jet Car. You can purchase the kits on site (cost £15). The Jet cars are very popular so come early to avoid disappointment. You can also order a kit and build it in advance and bring it to the event for racing; “Home design and Build”. The Jet Car Races will start outside the Observatory building from 15.00 (double-check the start time on the day because of potential weather impact). Prizes will be awarded for the fastest car and most interesting car in both “build on the day” and “Home design and Build” categories.

to give new competitors a chance, you will not be able to run a car that has been built in previous years. If there is demand for this, or over subscription on the day, it may be possible to organise another event on a different day, possibly at another location. Please let us know if you would definitely be interested in another event.
